It probably won't surprise you, but at number one is, of course, one of the best navigation apps ever: Google Maps. Google Maps is not only incredibly popular, but the user-friendliness of this app is also incredibly helpful. It's incredibly simple, and you can use Google Assistant to request directions. Want to go to the nearest gas station, for example? "Hey Google, navigate to gas station." Android Auto Google Maps will then instantly calculate the route, and you can easily drive to the nearest gas station. How cool is that?
2. Android Auto Spotify
Navigation is all well and good, of course, but let's be honest... a car ride without music is nothing, right? Or let's put it another way: a car ride without your own music is nothing, right? That's why, thankfully, with Android Auto, you can easily play your own favorite songs. Our favorite music app is Spotify, but it really depends on which app you normally use to play music. We absolutely love Spotify, because it lets you easily play all your playlists and saved albums. You can easily browse through different music genres or choose music from a specific time period. This makes your long car ride even more enjoyable!
3. Navigate with Waze
This Android Auto app has become incredibly popular in recent years. More and more people are using Waze. With Waze, you not only navigate easily from A to B, but you also get a wealth of extra traffic information, all shared by other Waze users. By using Waze, you know exactly where traffic is and which roads to avoid.
Oh yeah... also worth mentioning: with Waze, you can also simply use Google Assistant.
4. Chat with WhatsApp Android Auto
This naturally depends on which app you use to chat with family, friends, and colleagues, but the most commonly used is undoubtedly WhatsApp. WhatsApp Android Auto's capabilities are, of course, limited. This is mainly due to road safety. You're not supposed to type messages or read conversations while driving. That's why Android Auto offers the option to play incoming messages. You can easily reply using Google Assistant. Play the incoming message, click the microphone, and speak your response. It couldn't be simpler, right?
5. TuneIn Radio
It's certainly great to play your own music lists with Spotify, but sometimes you just don't know what to listen to. Then it's nice to be able to just listen to the old-fashioned radio. Don't have your own playlist yet? DAB receiver In your car? Then the TuneIn Radio app is incredibly handy. It's an internet radio app where you can easily choose specific stations. TuneIn does a great job of recommending these interesting stations to users.
6. Sygic Android Auto
Would you prefer to simply navigate without the internet? Then use Sygic.This way, you can download maps of virtually any country to your phone, including 3D maps. These are updated several times a year. What makes this app so great is its focus on guiding users, both in the car and on foot. You're presented with a route, and even offline, you can see lane guidance on the highway. Ideal!
7. No more fines with Flitsmeister
The name of this app says it all: it warns users about speed cameras. Over the years, the service has evolved into a fully-fledged navigation app with a focus on traffic warnings.
Drivers using the app report speed cameras, traffic jams, and accidents, so you'll immediately know what to expect. These notifications also appear in Android Auto. Flitsmeister also communicates with smart traffic lights, allowing you to see in Android Auto whether a traffic light is red or green. This is handy when you can't see that annoying traffic light through your own roof, or if there's a truck in front of you.
