The convenience of Android Auto and Apple CarPlay

We all know that using your phone while driving is dangerous. At the same time, in 2023, we can't live without our smartphones. In fact, our phones are packed with handy features that make driving much easier and more enjoyable. Android Auto and Apple CarPlay make these features easy to use. Think of apps like Google Maps, Waze, Spotify, and Flitsmeister.

Integration of smartphone apps in your car

These convenient features are available on your smartphone and are often more powerful and significantly easier to use than the standard features of the built-in navigation systems in modern cars. That's why many car manufacturers and drivers are opting to forgo these navigation systems and instead use Android Auto or Apple CarPlay. These systems allow you to control your phone's functions via your car's central display. This makes navigating and playing music much faster, smoother, and incredibly easy.

How does Apple Carplay work? && Android Auto?

Both systems essentially operate on a similar principle. They offer a limited number of your phone's functions in a clear and concise manner via your car's screen. With larger buttons and the omission of unnecessary features, they're much faster and easier to use than placing your phone in a holder on the window or dashboard. Moreover, cars often have larger screens, which automatically makes navigation much clearer. Both systems also limit the number of notifications you receive, so you're not distracted by incoming WhatsApp messages or other notifications while driving.

Want to expand your Apple CarPlay even further? You can with the carplayboxThis way, you can transform your CarPlay functionality into a truly enjoyable driving experience. Keep in mind: these are only features that benefit the passenger! While driving, you should focus solely on the road.

Always up-to-date navigation

The biggest advantage of Android Auto and Apple CarPlay is the fact that they run on your smartphone. This ensures the system is always up-to-date. This is especially beneficial for used cars, as built-in navigation systems typically only receive updates for a few years. With Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, you always have the latest version and up-to-date navigation. So you know exactly when traffic is likely, even if your car is over 15 years old!

A major advantage of CarPlay is that you can customize which apps are visible on your car's screen on your phone. To set this, go to "General" -> 'CarPlay' and select the car. Select 'Customize' to open the application list. Use the plus and minus buttons to add or remove apps, and hold down to change the order.

Install Android Auto in your car

Most smartphones run on Google's Android operating system. Google introduced Android Auto in 2014, but it wasn't officially supported in the Netherlands for a long time. Fortunately, this has changed, and we've been able to use Android Auto for quite some time now. For phones running Android 6 through 9, you need to download the Android Auto app from the app store, while the functionality is built in as standard from Android 10 onwards.
