When is the CTX-3305 required?

In figure 2, two situations are depicted:

Situation 1: This is an optical fiber connection. The traditional speaker cables are missing, and the green fiber optic cable is clearly visible.

Situation 2: There is no fiber optic connection here, so the CTX-3305 is not required. Traditional speaker connections are present.
